Channel 4's 5. 0 Greatest Comedy Films list.[1] In 2. National Film Registry, being deemed as "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant".[2]The film is an enactment of the following story read by a sick boy's grandfather as the boy sits in bed listening, framed and occasionally interrupted by scenes of the reading. A beautiful young woman named Buttercup lives on a farm in the fictional country of Florin. James May Man Lab Season 1 Episode 2. Whenever she orders the farmhand Westley to do chores for her, he complies and answers, "As you wish." Eventually she realizes he loves her and admits her love for him. Westley leaves to seek his fortune so they can marry, but his ship is attacked by the Dread Pirate Roberts. Five years later, believing Westley is dead, Buttercup reluctantly agrees to marry Prince Humperdinck, heir to the throne of Florin.

Before the wedding, she is kidnapped by three outlaws: a short Sicilian boss named Vizzini, a gigantic wrestler from Greenland named Fezzik, and a Spanishfencing master named Inigo Montoya, who seeks revenge against the six- fingered man who killed his father. The outlaws are pursued by Prince Humperdinck with a complement of soldiers, and also by a masked man in black. The man in black catches up to the outlaws at the top of the Cliffs of Insanity, where he defeats Inigo in a duel and knocks him unconscious, chokes Fezzik until he blacks out, and kills Vizzini by tricking him into drinking poison. He takes Buttercup prisoner and they flee, stopping to rest at the edge of a gorge. When Buttercup correctly guesses that he is the Dread Pirate Roberts, she becomes enraged at him for killing Westley; as he suddenly notices Humperdinck and his men appear in the distance, she shoves him down into the gorge and wishes death upon him.

She then realizes he is Westley himself when he replies, "As you wish!" She throws herself into the gorge after him, and together they enter the dangerous Fire Swamp. When they are captured on the other side of the Fire Swamp by Humperdinck and his sadistic six- fingered vizier Count Rugen, Buttercup agrees to return with Humperdinck in exchange for Westley's release. However, Humperdinck secretly orders Rugen to lock Westley in the castle torture chamber. When Buttercup expresses unhappiness at marrying Humperdinck, he promises to search for Westley; but his real plan is to start a war with the neighboring country of Guilder, by killing Buttercup and framing Guilder for her death. Buttercup taunts Humperdinck after learning that he never tried to find Westley. Enraged, Humperdinck tortures Westley almost to death.

Meanwhile, Inigo and Fezzik meet when Humperdinck orders a gang of goons to arrest the thieves in a nearby forest, and Fezzik tells Inigo about Rugen. Inigo decides that they need Westley's help to get into the castle, and when he hears cries of anguish, he realizes they must be from Westley. Inigo and Fezzik find Westley and fear him dead. Upon bringing him to a "miracle man", however, they learn that Westley is "only mostly dead", and the miracle man revives him to a state of heavy paralysis. After Westley, Inigo, and Fezzik invade the castle, Humperdinck orders the wedding ceremony shortened and Inigo finds and kills Rugen in a duel, repeatedly reciting his greeting of vengeance: "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya.

You killed my father. Prepare to die." Westley finds Buttercup, who is about to commit suicide, and assures her that her marriage is invalid because she never said "I do." Still partly paralyzed, he bluffs his way out of a duel with Humperdinck, then rides away with Buttercup, Inigo, and Fezzik. Back in the boy's bedroom, the boy asks his grandfather to read the story to him again the next day, to which the grandfather replies, "As you wish", which, as he explained earlier, means "I love you."Framing story[edit]Main story[edit]Production[edit]There had been many attempts to turn the novel into a film. In 1. 97. 3, 2. 0th Century Fox paid Goldman $5.

Richard Lester was signed to direct and the movie was almost made, but the head of production at Fox was fired and the project was put on hiatus. Goldman subsequently bought back the film rights to the novel with his own money.[5] The movie was almost financed several times over the next decade—at one stage in the early 1. Christopher Reeve was interested in playing Westley[6]—before Rob Reiner managed to secure funding from Norman Lear.[7]The film was shot in various locations in Great Britain and Ireland: Carl Wark, Sheffield, England. Burnham Beeches, Buckinghamshire, England. Lathkill Dale where it meets Cales Dale (the 'Battle of wits' scene)Cave Dale, Castleton, Derbyshire, England.

Bradley Rocks and Robin Hood's Stride, Birchover, Derbyshire, England. Cliffs of Moher, County Clare, Ireland (for the Cliffs of Insanity)Haddon Hall, Bakewell, Derbyshire, England. Penshurst Place, Kent, England [8]Cary Elwes and Mandy Patinkin learned to fence (both left- and right- handed) for the film (reportedly spending all their free time during the production practicing with fencing instructors Bob Anderson and Peter Diamond, and with each other). The actors performed all of the fencing in the sword fight scene personally, although stunt doubles were used for the two somersaults.[9]Popular professional wrestler André the Giant had undergone major back surgery prior to filming and, despite his great size and strength, could not support the weight of Cary Elwes during their fight scene or Robin Wright for a scene at the end of the film. For the wrestling scene, when Elwes was pretending to hang on André's back, he was actually walking on a series of ramps below the camera during close- ups.

For the wide shots, a stunt double took the place of André.[1. When he was apparently carrying Wright, she was actually suspended by cables.[1. In 2. 01. 4, Cary Elwes wrote a behind- the- scenes account of the film's production. As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales From the Making of The Princess Bride" was co- written with Joe Layden and debuted at #3 on the New York Times Bestseller list.[1. In addition to a foreword by director Rob Reiner and a limited edition poster, the book includes exclusive photos and interviews with the cast members from the 2.

Soundtrack[edit]The original soundtrack album was composed by Mark Knopfler, and released by Warner Bros. Records in the United States and Vertigo Records internationally in November 1. The album contains the song "Storybook Love", performed by Willy De. Ville and produced by Mark Knopfler. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 6. Academy Awards.[1. In his audio commentary of the film on the special edition DVD, director Rob Reiner said that only Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits could create a soundtrack to capture the film's quirky yet romantic nature.

Reiner was an admirer of Knopfler's work but did not know him before working on the film. He sent the script to him hoping he would agree to score the film. Knopfler agreed on one condition: that somewhere in the film Reiner would include the USS Coral Sea (CV- 4. USS Ooral Sea OV- 4. B") he wore as Marty Di. Bergi in This Is Spinal Tap.

Ben Carson's parents were NOT the bigamist father and child bride he describes. Ben Carson has made his mother's extraordinary life story a central part of his campaign. In his books, speeches and interviews, he has told how Sonya was one of a family of 2. But Daily Mail Online can reveal that little of that story is exactly as he has relayed it – although the truth appears to be just as inspirational as the version the Republican candidate has offered. The differences between Carson's version and what official documents and interviews with family members revealed suggest that the surgeon himself may not know the full story of his background. But they raise questions about why he did not seek documentary proof for many of the claims he made in his books, especially once he repeated them in the context of a political campaign. They also raise questions over the methods of a Harvard professor who investigated Carson's ancestry for a PBS miniseries in 2. Republican front- runner told about his parents. The candidate has leaned repeatedly on a narrative retelling of his mother Sonya’s extraordinary upbringing and hardships, including in his best- selling book, 'Gifted Hands,' and in a number of interviews. He even recounted it in the moment that propelled him into political prominence – his address to the Fellowship Foundation National Prayer Breakfast in 2.

President Obama.'My mother and father got divorced early on,' Carson said then. My mother got married when she was 1. She was one of 2. Had a horrible life.

Discovered that her husband was a bigamist, had another family.'The full speech is reproduced in his latest book, 'One Nation,' which is frequently sold at campaign events. Daily Mail Online, however, has uncovered four separate documents suggesting Sonya’s true name is actually Johnnie. There are no publicly accessible records that name her as Sonya. According to U. S. Census information, Carson's mother is between two to four years older than she has claimed.

And, far from being married at 1. Carson has previously claimed she had only a third- grade education. Records show that she was still in school in the fifth grade. It is possible that Carson's description of his mother's third- grade education refers to her level of attainment, not her years in the classroom. Childhood home: This was the house where Ben Carson lived with his mother and brother. Official documents show that his father Robert, and Johnnie, 'his wf.,' purchased it.

Purchase: The records for the childhood home of Ben Carson, showing how his parents bought it in August 1. Documented: Part of the property records which establish the Carsons' ownership of the home. Documentary proof: The 1. Robert Carson was 'married' to Johnnie - although no further documentary evidence of their marriage exists. Handover: Dr. Carson's mother, named as Johnnie Carson, relinquished ownership of the house in return for $1.

A further document shows that two months later it passed to Willie Copeland Jr., who appears to be her nephew – and therefore the candidate's first cousin. Identification: The 1. Johnnie Carson' is a woman – and therefore Ben Carson's mother Daily Mail Online can also identify his father as Robert Solomon Carson, a Baptist minister who died in 1. Detroit at age 7.

Mary. He was also survived by a stepdaughter, Fairell Tubbs, who said she was at his wedding around five years before his death, but did not know the details of his previous marriages, if any. Being one of twenty- four children, getting married at age thirteen, and later having to get a divorce after finding out my husband was a bigamist were just a few of them. Ben Carson's mother describes the challenges she faced Public records inspected by Daily Mail Online show no evidence of Robert Solomon Carson ever marrying or divorcing Sonya Copeland – the name until now believed to be that of Carson's elderly mother. Tubbs said Dr. Carson was invited to his father's wedding but didn't come – and that he also did not attend his father's funeral. Ironically the distinguished neurosurgeon's dad died of Parkinson's, a neurological disease. He is buried in an unmarked grave. Carson's father, according to his account in his book 'Gifted Hands,' raised him until the age of eight. But he is never mentioned as being part of his life after that.

In chapter two of the 1. Republican politician describes his parents' story: 'Both my parents came from big families: my mother had 2. They married when my father was 2. Many years later she confided that she was looking for a way to get out of a desperate home situation.'Dr. Carson’s account continues: 'Shortly after their marriage, they moved from Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Detroit, which was the trend for laborers in the late 1. A letter attributed to Sonya Carson, reprinted in 'Gifted Hands,' states: 'As the mother of Ben and his brother, Curtis, I had a lot of challenges.''Being one of twenty- four children, getting married at age thirteen, and later having to get a divorce after finding out my husband was a bigamist were just a few of them.'Census and property records paint a different – if equally tough – picture.

They show that in Georgia in 1. John' Carson – a female – was part of the large family of a male John Carson and his wife Ruby, whoe maiden name was Stanley. Watch Barbarian Queen II: The Empress Strikes Back Online Free HD more.

That Mr. Carson was a farm laborer; his daughter John was described as age six at the time. Ten years later the family had moved to Hamilton County, Tennessee. Johnnie Lou,' a daughter, was recorded in the 1.

Resting place: This is the unmarked grave where Robert Solomon Carson was buried in 1. He died of Parkinson's disease Gravesite: The metal marker in the foreground is all that shows the burial place of Robert Solomon Carson, who was a Baptist minister and auto worker in Detroit. Passed away: Robert Solomon Carson's death certificate shows that he was born in Georgia, and married to Mary E. Carson. She is also now deceased. Census records also shed some light on the Copeland family that produced Dr. Carson's mother. It appears to have been made up of 1. The latest census records which are public are from 1.

The 1. 93. 0 and 1. But taking either account, Carson’s mother is two to four years older than Sonya’s age, whom current public records show was born in 1. The next official document shows that in 1. Robert Solomon Carson bought the house at 1. Deacon Street where Ben Carson was born and brought up. The doctor's dad is recorded as buying it with 'Johnnie,' 'his wf' – wife.

That suggests Sonya may be a middle name or a family nickname, and not the elderly Mrs Carson's legal name. The deed that recorded the Carsons' home ownership does not include any proof of their marriage.

After an examination of city, state and national records, Daily Mail Online was unable to find any marriage record for Robert Solomon Carson and Sonya Copeland. The Hamilton County Clerk of Courts, which covers Chattanooga, Tennessee – where the Copelands had been living when they were supposedly wed – found no details of a union in any year between a male Carson and a female Copeland. Property records show that, formally married or not, the Carsons were the first family to live in the home built on Lot 5. Deacon Street, now located at the street address #1. In 'Gifted Hands,' Dr.

Carson described the modest home as 'about the size of many garages today ..
